“When the boys and girls had to line up on separate sides of the room in elementary school, I never felt right lining up with the boys. But it wasn’t until I got older and more information became available that I was able to recognize that I didn’t identify with the gender I was assigned at birth. I didn’t think you could do anything about it, though, and when I learned that you could, I thought ‘it may be possible but I can’t do this — it’ll blow up my life.”
